School Hours: Arrival and Dismissal

School Hours

The school day runs from 8:10AM until 2:50PM. The exception is Wednesdays, when students are dismissed at 12:35PM.

On Time

Students should be on the plaza by 8:05AM. (Please do not drop off children before 8:00AM, as there are no adults on the plaza to supervise.) The first bell rings at 8:10AM, and we expect all children to be in their classrooms by 8:20AM.

Late Arrival

Children who arrive late must go to the main office to obtain a late slip before going to class. Students who consistently arrive late miss valuable learning time. Please help your child arrive by 8:10AM each day.

Early Morning Drop-Off Program

We offer an Early Morning Drop-Off Program so that parents can bring their children to school prior to the start of the regularly scheduled school day. The program runs from 7:20AM to 8:10AM (when the first bell rings) and begins on Tuesday, September 8th. The program meets in the Angier library. The Early Morning teacher, Mrs. Lucia Wolfe, will buzz your child in using the main entrance. Your child will then walk to the library.

We have arrival and dismissal locations for each grade level, as follows:

Front plaza: Kindergarten & Grade 1
Back plaza by the cafeteria: Grades 2 & 3
Side door by the library: Grade 4
Side door by the faculty parking lot: Grade 5

Pickup Patrol

PickUp Patrol is our online system for managing arrival and dismissal plans. All families will receive an email from PickUp Patrol during the week of August 24th with instructions for setting up their account and entering their default dismissal plans. Please complete this important step before the first day of school.

Arrival Procedures

First Week of School

On the first day of school (Wednesday, September 2nd), all teachers will greet their students outside at their grade-level arrival locations at 8:05AM and escort them into the building together. Parents/caregivers may wait with their children or leave once they are with their teacher. We ask that families say goodbye outside and do not enter the building.
On Thursday, September 3rd and Friday, September 4th, students in Grades 1-5 will wait at their arrival locations and walk into school independently when the first bell rings at 8:10AM. Teachers will greet students in their classrooms.
Kindergarten teachers will continue to greet their students outside on the front plaza on September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Beginning on Monday, September 7th, kindergarten students will also walk into school independently and be greeted by their teachers in their classrooms.

Bus & Van Riders

Children who ride the bus will exit at 8:05AM and wait in their arrival locations with their classmates. Vans pull into the back lot, where staff members greet students and escort them to their classrooms.

Car Line / Live Drop-Off

Families using the car line may pull up between 8:05-8:20AM. Staff members will assist children from the passenger side of the vehicle. Please remain in your car. If your child cannot exit independently, please park nearby and walk your child to school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Morning Staff

Throughout the school year, staff members are stationed at arrival locations and in the lobby to welcome students and help them get to their classrooms. If you or your child needs assistance, we are here to help.

Dismissal Procedures

Parent/Caregiver Pick-Up: Children are escorted outside by classroom teachers at 2:50PM and wait at their grade-level dismissal location. Parents/caregivers may pick up their child at that time. Please make sure the teacher sees you before dismissing your child.
Bus & Van Riders: Children who ride the bus or van head to those areas (Bus- front plaza; van- side of school in faculty lot) at dismissal and meet another teacher waiting by the bus or van. The teacher has a clipboard with the children’s names, which are checked off each afternoon. Children must have a bus pass to ride the bus. Apply for a bus pass on the district Transportation page. *Note that Kindergartners are escorted to the bus/van by teaching assistants.
Dismissal Changes: All changes regarding dismissal MUST go through PickUp Patrol. This is extremely important so that we know where your child is supposed to go at the end of the day. Thank you for your help!
Late Pick Up: When parents/caregivers are late, your child will wait in the main lobby under adult supervision. Please buzz at the main door when you arrive to take your child.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed on school property unless they are properly identified therapy dogs. Below is a plan that should work for all.

If you choose to walk your dog to school at arrival and dismissal times, you and your dog must wait on the grassy area across from the school. The area has benches, which creates a lovely space for adults and dogs to gather.
Your child can walk safely across the street on the crosswalks while you stay on the grassy area with your dog; there is also a crossing guard on duty.
Make sure to inform your child’s teacher that you give permission for your child to walk to the grassy area on their own. It is imperative that you talk with your child to create a plan in case you are late. Make sure to communicate that plan to your child’s teacher.
